Greetings from Nepal Geographical Society.
On 26 August 2026, the sudden flood that struck the Lhede–Bhotekoshi–Trishuli River caused significant loss of life, critical infrastructure, and property, with an increasing risk of such disasters in Nepal’s mountainous regions and cryospheric areas. In this context, the Nepal Geographical Society (NGS) has organized a special webinar series to better understand the underlying causes, impacts, and potential risk-reduction and mitigation measures.
In this episode, Prof. Narendra Raj Khanal, PhD, Tribhuvan University, will speak about “Extraordinary cryospheric flood disasters of August 26, 2026, in Chhochen/ Lhede/ Kerung/ Bhotekoshi/ Trishuli River, Central Himalaya”.
Thus, NGS warmly invites all interested professional geographers, geoscientists, researchers, policymakers, and students to join this special event and participate in the discussion.

Dear Esteemed NGS Members and Scholars, based on the research needs and interests expressed by our members and scholars, the Nepal Geographical Society (NGS) is pleased to organize an online KoboToolbox Training Program from 1 to 4 August 2026.
To cover the training arrangements and facilitator costs, NGS has set a training fee of NPR 1,000 (one thousand rupees) per participant. Interested participants are requested to complete their registration by depositing the training fee to the NGS bank account provided below and sharing the payment screenshot with us for confirmation.
All scholars and students who have registered for the training are kindly requested to reserve their time and prepare their research questionnaires and checklists in advance to ensure maximum benefit from the training.

In this episode, Dinesh Paudel, PhD, Professor, Appalachian State University, USA, will speak about "New Himalayan Conjuncture: Geopolitical infrastructuralism, new political ruptures and the future of development in Nepal." The talk will highlight how the Himalayan region is shifting toward infrastructuralism from conventional developmentalism, and what possibilities this shift has generated for the future of development in Nepal.

About us
Nepal Geographical Society (NGS) was established in 1961 (BS 2018) with objectives of promoting and disseminating geographical knowledge through research, discussions, and publications. It conducts research, publishes journals and organizes talk programs, seminars and workshops. An Ad hoc Executive Committee of Nepal Geographical Society was formed in 1962. The first elected Executive Committee was constituted soon after. Currently, there are more than 500 members in the society. The International Geographical Union (IGU) accepted Nepal as a member in the 34th General Assembly. The role of geographers in development planning has been recognized in the country and geographers were appointed as Vice-Chairman and Member of National Planning Commission, Vice-Chancellor of Nepal Academy of Science and Technology, and also appointed as member in restructuring the administrative and political units in the country.
